Restoration of D'Ascenzo Leaded cabinet doors |
This cabinet with leading glass doors was from the Thunderbird Lodge in Rose Tree, Pennsylvania a town famous for its connection to the Arts and Crafts movement of the turn of the 19th to 20th century.
The lead cames of these leadlites were completely oxidized from exposure to acids naturally occurring in the wood the cabinet was made with. On the outside the leads were fine. Only on the interior where the lead was continually exposed to the acidic atmosphere did the lead disintegrate. The windows were reasembled with new lead and the original "printers mark" lead overlays were able to be saved, preserving the original look of this antique piece of furniture.
